Everyday Superhero:
Robin, Pharmacy Student

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It is Pharmacy Week, so we asked intern pharmacist, Robin, about school, achieving her career goals and the person she looks to for inspiration.

Name: Robin B.

Profession: Intern pharmacist from Washington, D.C currently residing in sunny California.

Why did you choose to become a pharmacist?

My decision to become a pharmacist was sparked at a young age when I would take care of my great grandfather and help him manage his medications. I knew I wanted to touch people with the miracle of medicine and help save lives one day. I knew the only thing that stood in between me and this goal was the determination and hard work to achieve it. I took all the necessary steps to achieve my goal, and here I am, getting closer to it day by day.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

My favorite aspect of my job is the patients. Knowing that their health is improving with the therapy I’m providing is very rewarding.

What has been the most interesting part of Pharmacy school?

The most interesting part of pharmacy school is hands down my classmates. The way that we support each other is amazing, and we make the process fun and exciting.

Is there a certain person/figure that inspires you in your career?

For me, an inspirational figure in my field is Anna Louise James. She was the first black female pharmacist in the 1800s. It’s astonishing that even through those difficult times she was able to be a pioneer in the field of pharmacy.

What advice would you give to a student thinking about becoming a pharmacist as well?

If you’re pursuing pharmacy, you must learn to respect the process and not to rush it. You must enjoy every minute of it and soak up as much information as you can while in school or on rotations so that you can be a knowledgeable and competent pharmacist once you graduate! Patience is the key.
