Let’s Go Red for American Heart Association

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of women, causing more deaths than all forms of cancer combined?

(Statistic from CDC.gov

This is no joke. And this is why it’s important to take care of yourself to reduce our risk of heart disease. Here are five ways to take care of your heart.

1) Don’t Smoke

2) Maintain a Healthy Weight

3) Exercise

  • Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 times per week. Ask a friend for help with this one if you need a plan and or someone to keep you accountable!

4) Eat Heart Healthy Foods

  • Fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, legumes & omega-3s. (You can even treat yourself to some of my personal favorites: coffee, dark chocolate & red wine!) Limit your intake of trans fat, saturated fat, processed foods, and sodium.

5) Get Checked by Your Primary Care Provider

  • See your primary care provider on a regular basis to have your blood pressure, cholesterol, and serum glucose levels checked. While we can’t control our family history, we can manage these risk factors.

Share this message and support the American Heart Association by wearing red this month. If you’re in the medical field (and can’t wear red scrubs) add Jaanuu’s limited-edition heartbeat embroidery to any top. For every embroidery purchase, Jaanuu will donate one dollar to the American Heart Association. Wear your heart on your sleeve in the name of heart disease.
